About Vaughan Flanagan

Vaughan has always been a visual and tactile learner, so illustration was a natural inclination for him. However, drawing itself wasn’t Vaughan’s first medium for expression. Like many other kids in the 80s, he had a serious Lego addiction. Lego wasn’t only a building material, but a medium through which Vaughan could tell the stories in his head. In many ways, he misses the immediacy of Lego when compared with the more complicated tools he uses today.

For most of Vaughan’s finished illustrations, he uses Adobe Photoshop because it is the fastest way for him to produce work of a publishable quality. Digital media, in that sense, can be very liberating. It offers you an entire arsenal of painting tools, as well as the opportunity to edit your work to your heart’s content.

Vaughan is a huge fan of the cinema and often draws inspiration from films for compositions. Filmmakers are really amazing at finding the most dramatic way of telling stories visually, and that is a quality Vaughan always looks to have in his work.
